In English, content words generally carry the main meaning of sentences.  Examples of content words are nouns, main verbs, adjectives, question words, adjectives etc.  Content words are usually more stressed than function words.  Function words usually have a grammatical function within a sentence.  Examples of function words are helping verbs, pronouns, preposition etc.

Pronouncing English with the correct sentence stress makes it easier for English speakers to understand you.
